Basic Overview

Sparky on storymode is mostly a tank and spank fight with some adds waves. Players can expect 3 waves of adds in the first minute and then 1 wave of adds every minute after. The adds do apply a stacking debuff that increase the damage tanks take by 4% per stack but this debuff has a time duration in storymode and usually falls off before the next wave comes in. Players need to spread out for Sparky’s rampage attack and DPS Spark when she has someone pinned down for Brutalize.

Video

Differences from Hardmode

No tank swap is needed as Sparky does not apply the delicious debuff in storymode. She also does not have the Command Presence circle in storymode so you can group adds up next to her for AoE. Rending Swipe debuff isn’t as punishing in hardmode since it falls off quickly and does not reach very high stacks.

Adds

In the first minute, you will get 3 wave of single adds. The come about 15-20s apart and will attack their nearest target. The offtank should pick them up and stack them next to the boss so your DPS can AOE them down.. The entrance of these 3 adds are usually around 5s, 25s and 40s into the fight.

The 4th group of adds is usually a pair that comes in approximately around 1:30 give or take a few seconds. The 5th group is either a duo or trio and enters around 2:30. The 6th group is also a duo/trio and marks the soft enrage phase with its entrance around 3 minutes. A new add will spawn approaximately every 5s after the 6th wave. You should kill the adds from first 5 waves ASAP but ignore the 6th group and just focus on killing the boss.

Rending Swipe

The adds will apply a debuff called Rending Swipe on whoever is tanking them. This debuff is a stacking debuff lasting a few seconds. Each stack increase the damage you receive by 4%.

swtor-sparky-operation-guide-2

Great Swipe/Rampage/Roar

Sparky has a cleave called Great Swipe so tanks should be facing her away from the raid. She also have a casted AoE called either Roar, Forceful Roar or Desperate Roar depending on her HP. The biggest AoE damage is from her Rampage.

Starting at 1min into the fight, Sparky will do her Rampage attack. This ability has as 3.0 channel so you should know in advance when is coming. Sparky will Rampage Pounce to 3 random raid members and land with an AoE circle on each one. Anyone inside the circle will take about 5-6k damage. To minimize the amount of players caught in an AoE circle, everyone should spread out when Rampage is active. The cooldown on Rampage is 48s so expect it every 50s.

Brutalize

Brutalize is 20s channel in which a random raid member is pinned down and take continuous damage. To break them from this attack, everyone need to DPS Sparky until her shield breaks.. If Sparky is allowed to finish her channel, the pinned player will die instantly. .

Basic Overview

Sparky on Hardmode is a pure DPS fight as killing things faster will cause tanks to take less stacks of debuffs and therefore receive less damage. Sparky has an aura around them that give any adds around her 50% damage reduction and direct them to attack her current target. Single adds will spawn in the first minute, with 15-20s in between them. About halfway past the first minute, you will typically your 4th group of duo adds. At about half way past the second minute, you may get a 5th group of duo or trio adds. Finally at over halfway past the the third minute,  you will get the 6th group of duo/trio adds with an additional add spawning every 5s after. This is a soft enrage mechanic that force you to burn down the boss before the adds overwhelm you. Make sure to spread out for Rampage and DPS the boss hard when she brutalize and pin someone down.

Video

Differences from Storymode

Sparky now have a Command Presence Aura around her that give any adds inside a 50% damage reduction. The same aura will also allow her to command the adds to attack her target. Her Shoulder Throw/Body Slam now applies a stacking debuff so a tank swap is needed on every other Throw/Slam. The Rending Swipe debuff the adds applies no longer has a duration and won’t fall off until end of the fight. This cause this debuff to stack continuously. The sixth wave of adds (soft enrage) seems to come at around 3:30 on hardmode than 3:00.

Command Presence/Safety of the Pack

Sparky have two buffs on her in hardmode that is worthy of note. Safety of the Pack and Command Presence.

swtor-sparky-operation-guide-4swtor-sparky-operation-guide-3

They both deal with the circle that appear around Sparky. If any of the adds are within that circle, they will take 50% reduced damage and attack Sparky’s target.

swtor-sparky-operation-guide-5

Adds

In the first minute, you will get 3 wave of single adds. The come about 15-20s apart and will attack their nearest target. The offtank should pick them up and try to drag them outside the circle so they don’t get the damage reduction. The entrance of these 3 adds are usually around 5s, 25s and 40s into the fight.

The 4th group of adds is usually a pair that comes in approximately around 1:30 give or take a few seconds. The 5th group is either a duo or trio and enters around 2:30. The 6th group is also a duo/trio and marks the soft enrage phase with its entrance around 3:30-3:40. A new add will spawn approaximately every 5s after the 6th wave. You should kill the adds from first 5 waves ASAP but ignore the 6th group and just focus on killing the boss.

Rending Swipe

The adds will apply a debuff called Rending Swipe on whoever is tanking them. This debuff is a stacking debuff with no duration. You will keep the stacks until the fight is over. Each stack increase the damage you receive by 4%.

swtor-sparky-operation-guide-2

The faster your DPS kill those adds, the less stacks you will receive from them. This is a mechanic that can make the difference between a wipe or a successful kill.

Delicious

In addition to the debuff from the adds, tanks will also receive a stacking debuff from Sparky called Delicious that lasts for 30s. Each stack of this debuff increase the damage you take by 20%. This debuff is applied whenever Sparky use her Shoulder Throw or Body Slam on the main tank. She uses these attacks about every 20 seconds.

swtor-sparky-operation-guide-6swtor-sparky-operation-guide

We typically do a tank swap at around 2 stacks. After the second Body Slam/Shoulder Throw, the offtank taunt immediately (Taunt during the cast). Sparky tend to do a Brutal Pounce right after her slam/throw. With high stacks of Rending Swipe and 2 stacks of Delicious, the tank could be receiving more than double the damage later on in the fight and this combo might just one shot them.

Anyone inside the circle will take about 7-8k damage. To minimize the amount of players caught in an AoE circle, everyone should spread out when Rampage is active. The cooldown on Rampage is 48s so expect it every 50s.

Brutalize

Brutalize is 20s channel in which a random raid member is pinned down and take continuous damage. To break them from this attack, everyone need to DPS Sparky until her shield breaks. This is a DPS race to rescue the pinned player before she finishes channeling. Brutalize does a lot of damage so healers need to provide some burst heals. If Sparky is allowed to finish her channel, the pinned player will die instantly. .

swtor-sparky-operation-guide-8

Strategy

Main tank rush in and grab Sparky to turn her away from raid. Offtank be on the lookout for the add spawning at 5s into the fight and drag it away from Sparky. All DPS should focus on killing the add whenever it spawns. There is a tank swap on every other Body Slam/Shoulder Throw to ensure the tanks do not get more than 2 stacks of Delicious debuff.

At 1 minute into the fight, prepare for Sparky’s Rampage attack and then expect it every 50s after that. Be on the lookout for Brutalize and make sure all the DPS are focused on breaking down Sparky’s shield. You should expect a 4th wave of adds around 1:30 and a 5th group of adds around 2:30.

There is a 6th group of adds spawning around or after 3:30. Ignore this 6th group and just focus your burn on the boss. Sparky should be hopefully below 30% at this point. More adds will spawn every 5s after this group so the offtank just need to run around and kite them as the damage can be too much to face tank them all at the same time.

  • Will McBurney

One thing to add: we just cleared this fight on live, and the adds have a buff that makes them target whoever is closest and focus on them. Therefore, the tank who taunts the add needs to be at melee range, and then pull the add away, otherwise it will just go back to the original target after a couple seconds.

  • Theho

Enrage in 8-man HM appears to be 6:10.

  • McNooberton

Rending SwipeAdds apply this debuff to the offtank tanking them. Each stack of debuff causes you to take 4% ore damage.

is ore damge a new type of damge or is it just a typo ?

    • Oops typo, meant to say More

    • McNooberton

Nvm i see its a typo when you list the damage type in the chart further down

  • Hugo A Sanchez

Brutalize sometimes insta casts in HM

    • Ya I have noticed that, not sure if bug or intended

      • Olicc

Has there been any new information about this? We cleared this last night and were confused by this happening the first few times. Then the last time Brutalized worked normally and we were able to complete the fight.

Does this happen if you do something wrong similar to other fights when you have to bring a particular boss in multiple boss fights below a % in a specific order?
We were experimenting on how much DPS to put on the boss vs the adds, trying to balancing killing the boss with preventing too many stacks. Perhaps not damaging the boss enough by a certain point or allowing too many stacks by a certain point will trigger this? Or is it simply a bug where its skips the channel/DPS race part and goes right to the death blow randomly?

        • Skip

At the beginning of brutalize I believe you can’t have any DCDs active. That’s what makes her hit for damage in the millions.

      • Lizuwa

I don’t think it’s intended. I mean, yesterday I was hitted for 11mil+ damages on the very beginning of Brutalize. One of my guildmates adviced me to use Saber Reflect to survive it, but to be honest I didn’t even had the time to see it coming that i was dead

    • DogEyedBoy

Killed this boss on HM twice now; Brutalize always targets the tank currently on the boss and after a very short cast of “Brutal Pounce” (1-2 seconds) she will leap to them and instantly (60k+ damage) kill them. I was able to survive by using Force Shroud when I saw the cast which resisted the damage and caused her to begin the 20 second channel of Brutalize.

  • yellow-power ftw
