The War Reignites!

War between the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire blazes across the galaxy. Crucial resources dwindle as piracy and crime escalate dramatically. Amid this chaos, the Alliance Commander has the chance to tip the scales in favor of either faction, committing their elite forces to decide the fate of the galaxy.

As the Sith Empire prepares to make a decisive strike against a newly-constructed Republic shipyard on the planet Corellia, members of the Dark Council see victory on the horizon and begin plotting against one another in anticipation of the spoils. Meanwhile, Republic forces must race against time to muster reinforcements from across the galaxy in order to defend Corellia from the Sith.

A Classic from the Old Republic

The search for allies leads to Onderon, a planet of untamed jungles and savage beasts. For centuries, Onderon has been a loyal member of the Republic – but will the planet’s newly-crowned King maintain that ancient allegiance?

Galactic Crossroads

Travel to Mek-Sha, an independent fueling station and boomtown built in the hollows of a mined-out asteroid once controlled by the Hutts. This lawless den of smugglers, pirates, mercenaries, traders, and refugees has become a crossroads for the entire galaxy – a place where opportunity and danger can be found in equal measure.

Return to Corellia

In the dramatic finale of the expansion storyline, you will see Corellia like never before! This new Flashpoint will bring players to a new area on the classic SWTOR planet Corellia for both solo and group players.

Play with Friends

Dxun, Onderon’s largest moon, is teeming with wild jungle-life – drawing the attention of the unscrupulous Czerka Corporation as well as a band of fanatical Trandoshan hunters. The Operation will be available at launch, so gather your friends and prepare for one of the galaxy’s greatest challenges!

The Spoils of War

Our philosophy for this expansion is, play your way. Items have always been an important part of your character’s identity, but for the first time we are offering true depth and choice with exciting new items that let you decide how to play in the upcoming battle.

One of the ways that we’re adding this depth is with an entirely new type of gear slot – Tactical items. These build-defining items directly alter your abilities and playstyle. Taking these new items, players will be able to pair them with numerous new set bonuses to choose from, including general sets that can be used by everyone.

These item sets can be acquired through multiple paths. Acquire your gear no matter how you choose to play: Player vs Environment, Player vs Player, Galactic Command, and Crafting are all viable. New set items, Tactical items, and more open a pathway to limitless depth allowing you to play your character exactly how you want!

Begin Your Onslaught

Let’s not get too excited. Usually things that sound too good to be true turn out to be not that good.

  • KShrike

An actual expansion with actual raids?
    … hmmmm…..
I’m not so sure if I’m ready. I’m still a bit hurt from before.
    As a reminder:

    pre-“shadow of revan”
“Hey guys, we promise not to lie to you again or give you like six months of radio silence”
    Shadow of Revan releases
“Nightmare Mode is coming for the new raids, Temple of Sacrifice, and Ravagers”
    >six months later
“Hey guys, fuck raiding, amirite? Sub for our Single Player, ‘Nothing Changes’ Story instead!”
    >2 years of next to no content later
    >”Guys, a real expansion this time, we promise!”

    • mpsaunders .

yer, feels a little too late. Not logged on in 6 months. Not sure I care any more, I’m busy elsewhere. It once was my go to game, my fave game, and I will have fond memories for decades to come. Will see how I feel when we all get more info – they’ve announced absolutely nothing based on this “announcement”. 2 planets will either be really cool and deep or just small shallow areas that have little re-playability once completed. A new level cap means absolutely nothing to me – they will just ramp up the difficulty Anthem-style and therefore make levelling up pointless, same as the tactical slot. That’s not progress nor content – that’s more grind and zero fun. Bioware have made a new reputation over the last 5 years or so, across all of their games, one that states they can’t tell a good story any more.
Problem with this announcement is that I’ve waited a long long time for it. And now, it feels like I’ve waited too long to keep caring. I might return in September. I won’t be playing Tor before then, and I’ve not really played at all in the last year, year and a half as it’s just boring now. If they don’t deliver, that’s on them. I’ve got super-low expectations as bioware have lost their magic completely, all their games are the same mechanics now.

if u truely did not care u wouldnt be here though

      • Alex Veis-Horn

Overhype around Karpyshyn that wasn’t alone who wrote those things that people like but was the person who wrote shitty “Revan” book and just killed amazing characters. But, ofc, Drew returning is good news – what could be better than a medicore writer with a huge ego.

  • Littism

September couldn’t come any sooner! Excited to jump back in, It’s been a long time since the last expansion… Also for those who missed this here is the teaser for Episode 9, Palpatine seems to be taking a page from Valkorion’s book:

    • Fred Garvin

How could anyone miss this being released? lmao

      • Fubarz

Well I tried… but it kept following me till I agreed to see it.

    • Mikado_Wu

This is not the place for Make Star Wars.

      • Fred Garvin

Really? A game that for the past 4 years has churned out bullshit soap opera level shenanigans with some family and characters completely disconnected from the story you’ve worked on the previous 4 years before that except for shoehorning in an Emperor character (and even then they had to change his name for some stupid reason)? This is “fake” Star Wars at its finest.

Though actually it’s all real Star Wars, buttercup. All the shitty books and comic books with rabbit gunslingers and abysmal holiday specials and droid and Ewok cartoons and badly acted Ewok Adventures and….Ohhhh…you think Star Wars was perfect until 2015…don’t you? LMAO.

    • Amodin
      • Drool Bear

Ha ha ha. That was good.

      • Fred Garvin

I’d rather see the Tie Fighter crash into the ground. Even though her character was sabotaged by shitty writing; I’ll take Rey over Kylo “Temper Tantrum” Ren any day.

  • TheArtificer

Cantina code since no one here has posted it yet SWCELEBRATION19

    • thx !

    • Amodin

What is it, another stupid droid?

      • TheArtificer

No, that’s on the 4th, probably. No, it’s a flair and a bunch of stronghold decorations.

  • AdjeYo

    I’m excited, but cautiously excited.

  • Alexander Delorean

    Ok, gotta sub in august,

  • Barloc

That Tau vs Malgus picture is amazing. My only concern is they dumb down the Outlander to make Malgus seem like more of a threat.

    • Vanguard

In all fairness, the only “canon” Outlander would be the Jedi Knight or Sith Warrior characters. Everyone else makes sense when you compare power with Malgus.

      • Terry G Roberts

Jedi Consular and Sith Inquisitor as well. I mean one was the Warden of the Jedi Order, the other was the most powerful Dark Councilor (not by their title, but because of all the shit they do).

  • Jonathan Parker

I can’t help but notice how hard they’re trying to reset the galaxy to pre-Zakuul status. They’ve almost completely written it off, like it never happened. And now Malgus is back, so the Republic and Sith are at war again. Makes no sense to me. They really think, after so long fighting side by side, the armies of the both factions are just gonna go back to killing each other like the good old times? The Jedi and Sith themselves, I can understand, but the rank and file wouldn’t stand for it.

    • Terry G Roberts

Both sides were still at war with each other. That was one of the main reasons people joined the Alliance was because the Alliance aimed at stopping the Eternal Empire, while The Empire and Republic engaged in their little shadow war again. I’d say a lot of them joined Once the Eternal Empire was taken care of, both sides started gearing up for war again, but they now had to contend with the Alliance and the eternal fleet. That was the whole point of Iokath. Not many people who are already apart of the Alliance are going to want to return to their faction when they are already apart of the most powerful one. I do agree that it feels like they are resetting the galaxy, but it’s not like the two sides were ever allied. Even on Yavin IV it was just the immediate forces of Marr and Satele Shan. I wouldn’t even say an eighth of each factions forces joined the Alliance, and once the eternal fleet and gravestone were destroyed a lot of them left the Alliance. I’m sure the people who really put their differences aside stayed, while most of the others went back to familiar territory.

      • Jonathan Parker

I understand that the Alliance couldn’t last forever, since it was only started both times because of a common enemy, but after that, there’s bound to be something other than pure resentment left in the rank and file members of both factions. They fought together, they died together, spilled the same blood in the same mud as it were. I would have preferred some more time to explore that instead of “Malgus is back, we’re at war again and Zakuul is just over there doing… something, or nothing, we don’t care.”

        • Bryan

It’s clearly a retcon, one I’m glad to see.

      • Majigh Z

The Eternal Fleet wasn’t destroyed; just a few ships parked around Odessen. Although the Gravestone may be gone, we have control of the other Gods, with the exception of Izax. The Eternal Alliance/Empire is more or less as strong as it was when Arcann and his father ruled.

        • gua543

Lana explicitly states the Eternal Fleet is gone. You also get a message from SCORPIO if you spared her, saying she felt all of the GEMINI’s deaths. So yeah, they are gone.
As for being able to control the Machine Gods – seeing as they are not mentioned in the general story at all, I’m gonna assume that’s just a gameplay thing.
If the Alliance was that strong to begin with, we wouldn’t have been forced to choose a side as early as Iokath.

    • Marián Mojžiš

Well because for a lot of people (who I know) and who loves SWTOR, the true SW lore is about Imps vs Republic (scums:), not to make an alliance against some third superoverpowered empire from no where.. It was fun yea, but what makes story in game so great years before it was War between Republic and Empire, so finally they find out the right way I think 😉

      • Jonathan Parker

I loved it because, after all we had been through throughout the class stories and other Imp vs Pub stories, there wasn’t really much left to do. When they started the whole alliance idea back in Shadow of Revan, I actually loved it. I thought it was a breath of fresh air, something new that no one expected. When it happened again following the war with Zakuul (which I’m sad we never got to see), it seemed like the natural option. I loved all of the joint operations resulting in the rank and file realizing they’re not so different after all. I guess that kind of story gets to me, like all of those stories of WWI soldiers meeting in the middle, you know? Seems like it would be difficult to simply reset the state of things now that Malgus is back (somehow) and just act like nothing happened. They even wrote Zakuul out of the story for the most part, and the Alliance is all but destroyed after the Zildrog incident.

    • Bryan

They’re admitting Zakuul was a mistake, because it most fans felt it was. Part 1 was interesting, it was nice to see something different, but Part 2 was a boring mess. Also a lot of people never excepted Part 1 because it was such a departure from normal Star Wars. Ultimately they’re just listening to fan feed back (like Episode 9 looking to be a whole bunch of old cannon stuff again vs trying anything remotely different like 8 did).

      • Jonathan Parker

I still don’t think Zakuul was a mistake. I actually really liked the idea that the “Sith Emperor” or “Vitiate,” or whatever name people know him by, was planning this from the very beginning, to rule over the most powerful force in the galaxy forever. He led Revan to go to war with the Republic and turn to the dark side as a diversion. He started the war between the Sith Empire and the Republic as a diversion. The wars were feeding him, all of the death and destruction made him the most powerful force in the galaxy, enough to essentially live forever through the use of new hosts as time went on. I think that’s a fantastic new perspective on the whole of the Old Republic era. Each of these parts have their own amazing parts, but the whole is so much more complex. The only thing I didn’t like is how they tried to make Vaylin the new main antagonist of the story in KOTET, because I liked her more as the psychopathic antagonist that she was in the KOTFE story.

    • Michael Carton

      A big reset button. Yes.
I think this is based on player feedback. There was a lot of QQ’ing on SWTOR forums that without Republic vs Empire, without Jedi vs Sith, it wasn’t Star Wars anymore.
I wish they hadn’t brough Malgus back. I hope they don’t bring Revan back.

      • Jonathan Parker

If people are complaining that there needs to be a constant and never-ending conflict between Jedi and Sith for it to even be considered Star Wars, I think they totally missed the point of KOTOR, KOTOR2, and most of SWTOR. If the Old Republic era shows us anything about the Star Wars universe, it’s that Jedi and Sith, Republic and Empire, good and evil, they’re all relative and constantly changing. I thought it was an amazing change of pace when they actually managed to broker a ceasefire between two warring factions, even if it was just the forces under the command of a Jedi General and a Darth respectively, and then many more soldiers of those factions had to band together again to fight an even greater enemy. It was a good story, I don’t care what anyone says.

        • Illusive Man

It’s not that simple, people who liked 4.x-5.x like to minimize the outrage during those years to ‘they want Jedi vs Sith again boohoo’ when there were far more intricate issues with the story up to now. From plot holes, to our characters acting out of character, to space magic allowing us to survive being impaled to non-force classes being taken for a ride in a story specifically fitting Jedi, to space Hitler becoming not only saved by his mom who up to that point wanted justice but also romanceable because a loud minority on the forums, the story has taken a deep dive past weird and unconventional. It has redeeming qualities but largely was and is trash in execution.

          • Jonathan Parker

Okay, now the character inconsistencies part, I totally understand. I hated that too, especially since my Trooper is my main character and my favorite class to play. I’ve always preferred when they go into stories that aren’t focused on force users, and the Trooper has a fantastic story that does that really well. Yes, Fallen Empire changed that simply because they had to fit all eight classes into one overarching story, and that was an unfortunate decision. Yes, I would have preferred a story without the use of force deus-ex-machina type of shit, but some of it fit with the whole theme of Valkorian trying to use us as his new host, channeling the force through us. Other than that, it wasn’t great. The Arcann thing, I don’t have a problem with. From the very first trailer, we saw he wasn’t really an evil person, just misguided and quick to anger because of all he’d lost without reward or recognition from his father. I actually appreciate that it wasn’t even us who got through to him, it was his mother, the one person in the world aside from Thexan who really loved him. I thought his story was wrapped up rather nicely. The romance shit is a bit much, yes, but it’s completely avoidable. Hell, I might even follow it on one of my characters down the line.

          • Michael Carton

I got to say, Arcann becoming romanceable by players of either gender is about as far as one could go in jumping the shark; Vailyn being romanceable was the only frontier left.

      • Illusive Man

It was a shit story that saw to reducing a great number of characters to minor bullshit roles in the overarching galaxy our 8 classes had influence over. Fuck Valkorian and his family, fuck Zakuul and fuck Ben Irving for making the gameplay portion of the game scare off so many people.

This is almost like what the Legends pulled with the Yuuzhan Vong. It makes everything unrecognizable.

So we kill the same world bosses to get gear until September…

  • Master Monkey

yeah monkeys, new content finally, time to celebrate time to resub!!….until September of course.

  • Vergansito

Yes, i agree with being cautious about this, pretty much this game for example, was announced yesterday with absolute no gameplay but only cinematics, that tells me the game is not ready yet. Still i’ll be resubbing new broken content finally…broken but new…

    • Amodin

And this really has nothing at all to do with SWTOR.

      • Vergansito

It has everything to do, both EA Star wars games that i will be playing this fall….(and i bet you too).

        • Amodin

No actually I canceled my sub today. I really, really tried to come back and like SWTOR. Maybe the expansion, but I don’t play console and Fallen Order is completely different than SWTOR, the only relevance here is it’s all EA.

      • Ben Gimson

        So?

  • Disqus this

I’m still trying to figure out what dumb-ass thought it was a good idea to bring malgus back? A worthless flashpoint boss I killed in a few different ways beyond just throwing him in a hole. It shows a massive lack of creativity and story writing to go back that far just to have a bad guy but I guess I should have expected it from bioware these days.

The rest seems interesting enough but I also worry about the whole gearing change they mentioned. bioware doesn’t tend to get it even remotely close to something interesting when they launch things like that. Galactic command being the first example of gearing that took them nearly 2 years to get adjusted to something worth participating in.

Lets hope they don’t screw it up again.

    • Zeus Fagervold

Malgus was the figurehead of the Sith Empire, “killing” him off was a mistake to start with. I for one am glad they brought him back.

      • Disqus this

It’s not a story element I care at all for. It just shows a massive lack of creativity for bioware. These days I should expect that though. All this time and the best they can do is bring back a useless FP villain. No thank you.

        • gua543

He was literally the face of the Sith Empire, the first Sith we see in the first official TOR trailer and he’s a major part during the Imperial story, if you bother to do the flashpoints. What do you propose, they bring some completely new, random Sith and have us, the PC, just be “ye, ok, I’ll follow your orders, why not”

          • Disqus this

He was a joke and in impostor. A false emperor as we all learned.

            • gua543

Riiight, obviously you didn’t start playing this game at launch. Just because you’ve killed him a dozen times in tactical mode doesn’t mean he’s a trash character.

              • Disqus this

Unfortunately for you, I’m a founder and tactical was never even an option then. malgus was a joke from the time you meet him all the way up till you killed him. Bringing him back now is nothing but a massive lack of biowares creativity.

              • Crawfjord

Unfortunately for you he’s coming back anyway.

              • Disqus this

That is unfortunate for everyone as now anyone that plays will be subject to the piss poor creativity of bioware.

    • Fred Garvin

This is Star Wars. When in doubt, dig up old characters and situations and just recycle them. The fan base has proven they will cheer and spend money on command like trained seals barking for fish when given the proper cue. The ‘member berries are strong with this franchise’s base.

      • Disqus this

Sadly, you are more right than most are willing to accept.

        • Fred Garvin

Episode 1, 4, 6, and 7; plus R1 (slightly different but still small ships attacking large object) all end with blowing up a big space station of some sort. That’s half of all SW movies and it’s a trend started all the way back in 1983. Star Wars is staggeringly unoriginal. It’s a cinematic echo chamber.

          • gua543

If you wanna simplify it that much, it’s just a story about the good guys fighting the bad guys. They sometimes struggle, but they always win in the end. Something doesn’t need to be original and revolutionary to be considered good.

            • Fred Garvin

I actually didn’t simplify to the degree you did; your analogy sucks. Every James Bond movie ends with Bond defeating the villain but he doesn’t disarm a bomb to do it in 50% of them. It doesn’t take much to be original to a degree that makes it fresh for the genre/franchise. How about just don’t have a giant space station that shoots a laser at planets (at least Ep 1 and R1 mixed it up slightly) and they just keep rebuilding it after it’s blown up by small ships. The Empire/First Order are like the King of Swamp Castle in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Maybe the fourth planet killing space station will work…

    • ID

If stupid Palpatine is coming back why not Malgus, i mean i agree with your point however i prefer him than the stupid Pirates of carebean or transformers recent content.

    • Majigh Z

Charles Boyd brought him back because he was woefully underused, especially as the game’s mascot. Also, he didn’t actually die; you just see him fall down an endless pit. Luke Skywalker, Palpatine, and Darth Maul also survived an endless pitfall.

      • Disqus this

Good to know charles was the dumbass then but you are wrong. I bet him to death and he fell right on the floor at my feet. Then I blew the whole place up. I didn’t have to throw him down the hole and wonder what happened to him.

        • Fubarz

Thing about Games and Movies they can change things as they go. Start with falling down a pit… Another expac put the body on the floor (which did piss off many that were playing from the games release)….then to keep the game going (need to make more profit) bring him back since before the release of the game he was the face of the game…. New movies the main villain is a immature child trapped in an adult body with daddy issues….. The hero has abandonment issues as a child but grows up. Learns from an all knowing divine force how to become a super hero…..not making the kind of profit we want… fans are pissed… we will not admit to our mistakes …Let’s bring back the pass that made a lot of profit…. who better then the Ultimate Villain…..

          • Disqus this

I wouldn’t consider the character malgus “ultimate” at anything much less an ultimate villain. More like a one shot that we paid no mind to.

Might as well bring back Soa or better yet, the world eater that we trapped by pouring lava on top of this cage (wish I could remember the mission on that one.)
About anything would have shown more creativity than bringing back someone as mundane as malgus after this long.

            • Fubarz

The “ultimate villain” I as referring to was Emperor Palpatine for Episode 9…… Malgus was the face of swtor when it was released So bring him back (leaving him fall down a pit I could see bring) But changing it to showing his body on the floor not so much.

        • Ben Gimson

That’s because you were late to the party. They watered that fight down because all the newer, lesser players couldn’t hack proper gameplay, same as they did for LI. The original, proper version sees Malgus fall, but not die.

Everyone always expected him to come back.

          • Disqus this

You could do it either way. It wasn’t changed because people couldn’t do mechanics, it’s because their mechanics didn’t work 100% of the time which was a failure on biowares part. Either way, malgus was still dead and killed at my feet. bioware showing some worthless art at shortly before Kot** means nothing as you have no idea when it was created.

            • Ben Gimson

Like I said, lots of people assumed that because we never saw him die, that he might make a surprise return one day. Your friends might not’ve thought that, but *plenty* of people either acknowledged the possibility or actively thought he would reappear one day.

And clearly they intended to bring Malgus back, even earlier than Ossus since the Blur cinematic with him frozen in carbonite was shown once that content was cut. Massive waste of money but shows that BW had that in the pipeline years ago, it’s just been postponed.

Evidently you don’t like Malgus; that’s totally fine, I know plenty of people who do and who don’t. However, from a marketing perspective? He’s the guy in all the trailers, he’s the guy on the box art, he’s a well-established major character that both sides are sorely lacking right now. He’s the equivalent of Palpatine’s laugh at the end of the EP9 trailer.

True enough that they should have fixed the bug with the Malgus fight properly instead of half-arsing the fix, but the point remains; Malgus survived his injuries through cybernetic intervention. Whether his injuries were related to a fall or to the player character whacking him to the ground depends purely on when you arrived in swtor.

But BW cocking things up is nothing new. Everyone who played the vanilla version of that FP knew his death was never confirmed. So as I said; you were just late to the party, that doesn’t invalidate the experience of the guests who arrived on time, and you get an actual surprise out of his return 😀

              • Disqus this

Yea, I’ll be disagreeing with you on the “plenty of people” part as it just wasn’t so. What plenty of people did see is killing malgus right on the floor never blowing him up into the shaft. Just killed him. No bomb. No reason to think he would come back. blowing up the station compounded that fact.

It’s not a like or dislike thing for malgus. He was a decent trailer character but a joke f a villain in game. Pretty much worthless and a joke of an encounter.

Bringing him back now just screams lack of creativity at this point in swtor life. Just as bringing back palpatine is in the movies. the only way I could see palpatine coming back that makes any sense is as a force ghost. Just as malgus should have been along with Marr.

As a founder and beta player, no. ” late to the party” has nothing to so with bioware lack of skill and creativity.

              • Ben Gimson

Well, as I’ve said, they’ve clearly had this planned for a while, and the set up was there, even if it was clumsily patched out so that newer players weren’t aware of it.

You can disagree all you like but the topic was heavily discussed back in the day precisely because of the way he had to pushed down the ledge. The mechanic was very specific, and a lot of people thought that might’ve been hinting at a reappearance from Malgus later.

And you claim you’re a founder and beta player yet say you never encountered this mechanic? Come on now… if you were around at that time, you’d have seen the discussions about it that cropped up repeatedly on the forums.

      • Fred Garvin

Boyd annoys the hell out of me. As the years go by he looks more and more like one of those sloppy stoner dudes who lives at home with mom and dad forever after the other siblings have moved out and grown up.

Wrong. Since nearly the inception of that FP (aka not long after the games release) you were able to just outright kill him and he dies at your feet. You don’t have to blow him up at all. Just kill him and it’s been that way for 6+ years now.

    • Bryan

Malgus was amazing and more than just a single flashpoint. There is also concept art that proves that they originally planned to bring him back far sooner, but they lost their minds and started making the goofy shit they made instead. There’s a reason you had to do the goofy/often broken mechanic of him falling into a pit, no one saw him die…

      • Disqus this

As I said, I didn’t have to do the goofy bomb him into a pit. I killed him at my feet countless times. He was simply dead at my feat. Sure, you could blow him into the hole but you didn’t have to.

        • Bryan

I was reading top to bottom so i didn’t see that til after my post. Also as noted, that was a change made sometime in (I believe 2 or more years in) after they first dropped the idea of bringing him back and realized that it wasn’t worth dealing with the bugs around the pit mechanic. The original version you HAD to hit into the pit or it didn’t work (though I think there was an exploit to get around it, that wasn’t intended).

          • Disqus this

not 2 or more years but about 2 months in. malgus was never hinted at being brought back until the first mentions of KotFE and a screenshot was released of malgus in carbonite. Even then it was a WTF stupid moment after that long in the game.

there was an exploit to get around it but the encounter was changed to allow you to just kill him and it’s wasn’t long after release. So the notion that he was coming back is just someones want as the encounter didn’t feed into that.

            • Bryan

Why employ such a stupid & buggy mechanic in the first place then? He’s literally the only player to get this unique mechanic.

hmm, 2 months and not 2 years?
              “False Emperor
Players can now defeat the final boss encounter in this Flashpoint via normal means and are no longer required to throw the boss into the Reactor Shaft.”
(Copied and pasted from here: https://www.swtor.com/patchnotes/2.0.1/4242013 patch notes for 2.0.1 released 4/24/2013 which is about 1.5 years after launch. My 2+ years was an overshot, but closer than 2 months…. it was after the first expansion when the content was no longer relevant, which is why I suspect they finally changed it).

As I have said the throw into the pit rather than seeing a corpse lying on the ground was the hint, that’s my entire point. Also I’m not the only person that felt that way http://www.loregy.com/star-wars-the-old-republic/darth-malgus/ (link from 4/2012) Quote from this article “Let’s just cut to the obvious. We don’t kill Darth Malgus; we shove him off a platform. He falls out of sight, and falling has never been a reliable way to kill lead characters in the Star Wars mythos.”

An exploit isn’t proof of anything but a bug… Exploits exist by mistake not as proof that something isn’t cannon, what planet are you from?

Swtor was invited for a star wars show interview during the celebration

So handsome that beird guy! He looks like a Jedi!

          you’re welcome mai boitoi

  • Farlas816

Oh please let them be two new PROPER planets not just a tiny area to start flashpoints

    • Martin Marinov

I, kind of, miss the old story based planets with side planet missions and planet story…

    • Disqus this

You think they will be Rishi an Yavin 4 size?

Thats what I fear and if thats true it wont be a solid expansion after all this time if thats the best they can do.

      • Ben Gimson

Tbf that’d be better than what KotFE and KotET offered.

        • gua543

I mean, you don’t have to put a lot of effort to best what KotFE and KotET gave us.

          • Ben Gimson

            Tru dat^

        • Disqus this

          That I wholeheartedly agree with.

  • Ralgore

Re-subscribe in September and re-un-subscribe before November…when I’m done with everything the “expansion” has to offer.

    • Bryan

If it even takes that long. I only subbed a single month last time. (Granted it that story was so bad I only wanted to play it once when I usually do at least 2 runs).

I might stay longer this time and replay some of the old classes. It’s been like 5 years since I completed them all and most of them were pretty good. If only the game were as good as the potential it had at launch. *sigh*

      • Ralgore

Hehe, most likely the content will last barely a week…but we gotta anticipate server down times, bugs, patches, emergency-patches, bugs, content being drip-fed, some more down time and oh, did I mention bugs by the way ?

  • Fubarz
    • Amodin

And this really has nothing at all to do with SWTOR.

      • Ben Gimson

        So?

      • Fubarz

LMAO!!! Really you have a fallen Jedi padawan in the Inqs story line loosely based off a Clone Wars padawan People name their toons after characters from Clone Wars Not to mention CM items based from this and current Star Wars movies…..nothing to do with SWTOR …yea ok

        • Amodin

That was a bot… look at the name (mine) that you can click on, and the other moronic turd that used my name. I guess I have to start signing my shit again.

        • Zac

Rofl, are you retarded? You think references is enough to tie one title to another? SWTOR takes place eons before Disney’s shitty animated series.

          • Fubarz

Yea and in this reality Clone wars came out when??? How many years before SWTOR…. Better look up your facts (Google Search helps) since Clone Wars was out long before Disney bought Luasflim A small minded person should learn and know facts before calling some one retarded…. Have a great Weekend!!!

    • dinodoc

Looks like we’ll be getting the fell Siege of Mandalore plotline. Excellent.

  • Hoping for the best, expecting the worst

    • Errtai

      Yeah same.

    • Bryan

That’s a good plan in most circumstances, especially here.

I’m worried though that there’s no mention of fixing the OP companions, or at least an option to toggle them back to pre super powered levels…

I’ll still be trying it, been itching to hop in a bit and redo a 1-50 anyway for old times sake.

      • gua543

I just put my companions on DPS mode and disable all of their abilities, which leaves them only with their basic attack. Tbh before 4.0 companions that weren’t heals by default were pretty pathetic, I remember my dps companions struggling with clearing a single mob of 2-3 standard enemies. They were only semi-usable if you put endgame gear on them.

        • Bryan

I’ll probably try either that or no companions at all. I remember when I played the story for the last expansion I had a non-max level companion and I decided as a test to do nothing and let the comp do all the work. Made it all the way to the boss without having to do a single move on my actual character. It probably would have killed the boss too but it was a boss that healed at 1/3 health and the comp could get him there but not over kill past the heal. It’s a joke when the game is so not difficult you don’t even have to actually touch the keyboard/mouse to win.

  • Shawn Hargrave

sigh smh how this is still going with anthem crashing big time is lolz

    • Bryan

It’ll keep going until EA decides to shit can Bioware for the failures EA set them up for, like they always do. Whenever that happens the game will probably fold. Will the Anthem issue be enough? Not sure, there have certainly been worse failures and bigger successes.

  • Duxn is an operation? Oooooooh…. I’m actually kinda excited…

  • off3nc3

Well im hyped… 😀 I might be coming back finally !

  • Jep Fareborn

The new ‘gear slot’ for tactical use seems VERY interesting and intriguing – will it mean adding special animation styles that were taken out or class-specific such as Master Strike / Blade Dance and Hilt bash and droid slicing? Those would be awesome to use again at least on Melee

  • Eban

A free expansion that won’t arrive in September, most likely will be October which then it’ll break a ton of stuff and make most of the game unplayable and will require weeks of patching so really it’ll be around end of November that the free working expansion will arrive.

1 flashpoint using the skins of Corellia.
1 operation with around 4 bosses (all of which will be bugged I’m betting)
And some space bar story pressing.

Will say the Tactical items sound interesting.
Not interesting enough to subscribe but interesting all the same.

    • Tom

Reuse of existing planets is the best thing they can do… there are a lot of them already and they are never really solved storywise. As for bugs, they happen even when they patch the game, so expansion bugs are a nice change of pace.

      • Eban

haha yeah very true but with Bioware’s history those expansion bugs are game breaking bad and take months to fix.
I remember SOR expac and Yavin and Rishi was broken and unplayable for months (didn’t they piss off on holiday for weeks leaving the game broken, sure I recall that mess). The combat lag was ‘special’ in itself.

    • Gonadius

      Free to subs. Not ‘free’.

      • Eban

Yeah I should have wrote a subscriber free dlc.

    • Bakgrind

So is this the 6.0 expac that they were supposed to be working on? If it’s not that means that 6.0 wont drop until 2020.

      • Eban

This is 6.0 so called expansion. Or as I like to call it mini expansion or a subscriber free dlc.
It ain’t no proper AAA MMORPG Expansion that you would find in every other MMO that releases Expansions.
This is as mini as it gets.
It’s worth the one months sub it will cost to play it and that’s about it.
Pay one month, play it then unsub.

        • Vadim Karpov

But still this is more expantion than ESO so-called expantions.

          • Eban

            Erm no, it’s not more.
            ESO has expansions and DLC.
SWTOR’s 6.0 ‘expansion’ is about equal to an ESO DLC.

          • Zac

This little shot at ESO, a game I’ve never played, does very little to counter the fact that SWTOR is kinda sucking ass.

          • Fred Garvin

Nice try. Not only does ESO release more content than SWTOR but so does FFXIV, WoW, GW2…hell, even the original Everquest . The ONLY thing that has kept this game from landing on the scrap heap is the SW IP.

  • Flipito

Come on, this is Star Wars year, last movie chapter, last swtor expansion 6.0, new SW game, The Mandalorian series. I perfectly know SW is destroyed at this point however as i said this is his last year so i’m gonna try to enjoy it. After this i’m gonna try to erase this last trilogy from my mind (it never happened).

    • Eldritch Eschaton

Well, at least you aren’t melodramatic about it …

      • Flipito

        Boo hoo?

    • Kubrickian

Dave Filoni, John Favreau, Thor Ragnarok Director, Apollo Creed, Werner F’ing Herzog, Bill Burr,, this looks almost promising..

    • Gnat

1980 was THE star wars year. its long gone past im afraid.

      • Fred Garvin

Honestly, everything past then has been mediocre at best. Even RotJ started the process of just repeating what had come before. I’d say the best SW content past TESB has been story arcs on Clone Wars.

  • Need2Crash

well I will keep the game install to then end of the year then to see how this pans out but be bar hope is at an all time low

    • Bryan

SW destroyed? lol. I’m not gonna say this last trilogy has been great, but it’s no where near the nightmare of the prequels. I’m hoping they do a better job when they cut the cord from the Skywalker cannon and do something different (or copy some other good cannon from legends. Old Republic stuff could be cool).

      • Aragar – DarkSlayer

Apart from Jar Jar Binks and some parts of Episode 1, the other 2 episodes are really good, better than this last trilogy anyway, it’s all super special effects anyway, the story is pretty much the same as the original trilogy. They really should have gone with the Thrawn trilogy and NOT erase all the EU. I’ll always be broken hearted because of this. 🙁
Imho! Not trying to make anyone’s mind, if anyone enjoyed the new trilogy, good for them. 🙂

        • Bryan

No offense, but you’re out of your mind lol. The one and only good thing about all of Episode 1 was Darth Maul and he had ~15-20 minutes of screen time, really only did a fight in the whole movie, and was killed off in his first fight rather than being the prequel Darth Vader equivalent like he should be have been.. The rest of it was an absolute nightmare. Jake Loyd was terrible all around (not really his fault, they should have dealt with an older Anakin). Qui-Gon Jinn was entirely superfluous and either shouldn’t have existed or should have had far less screen-time, it should have been about Obi-Wan wanting to training Anakin and learning about him, but instead Liam Nieson stole the show for no reason and even forced Obi-Wan to train Anakin. Padme might have been a card board cutout for the amount of emotion expressed by the character. Jar Jar Binks was one of the smallest problems with that movie and might have worked better he was toned down and the other major problems were fixed.

Episode 2 was even worse. The worst Star Wars movie of all time IMO (including the new trilogy and the Han Solo movie). The romance was awful, the dialog was awful, the plot made no sense, Dooku was in no way a compelling villain at all, baby Fett was ridiculous, having Jango being the OG Fett ruins some of Boba’s uniqueness and interest, why would a bounty hunter like Jango hire a different bounty hunger to assassinate someone, why would a shape shifting bounty hunter rely on bombed ships and insects rather than using it’s natural ability to hide in plain site to kill her with a blaster to the gut/head, why chain up jedi and let monsters attack them rather than killing them outright, the whole sloppy/nonsensical clone army plot, Anakin jumps back and forth between being an incredible whiner and the cheapest frat bro stalker of all times. I could probably go on, but that sentence is a bad enough run-on already lol.

Episode 3 was decent and had some great moments between the boring and uninspired dialog shot. I would say at best it’s on par with episode 7.

Episode 7 was pretty good, but way too derivative, to the point of almost being a more exciting copy of Episode 4.

Episode 8 had some major issues for sure, but I was glad to see them at least try something different rather than copy/paste / using the same formula that’s tired and particular. It’s probably definitely better than 2, probably on par or slightly better than 1.

          Best to Worst:
          6|5 (nearly equal) … 7 3 4 ..8……. 1 ……… 2

          • Aragar – DarkSlayer

None taken. I appreciate your point of view but I stand with my opinion that the Thrawn trilogy by Timothy Zahn is way better than this Trilogy spawned by Kathleen Kennedy. Again, in my humble opinion. And indeed the lightsaber duel between Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Maul is great. (also, Kylo Ren’s lightsaber was totally uncalled for, there was no need to show off a new lightsaber design, again, imho.) I’m just a hurt fan. (call me butthurt, insult me all you want, I don’t really care, doesn’t change what I feel hehe) I still can’t believe that *GREAT* characters like: Kyle Katarn, Dash Rendar, Mara Jade, (Leia no longer becomes a Jedi), Chewbacca lives but Han Solo dies (facepalm), I could go on with the ranting but, anyway.

            • Bryan

I get it. And I’m in no way claiming that the new trilogy is better than the EU canon or that I’d rather have it than that. I’m by no means an expert on it, but I would have wanted to see those characters/things too. But I’m not comparing the new trilogy to movies that could have been but to movies that do exist (to be fair even with a good story line/book can totally get messed up when converted to the big screen, take the Dark Tower, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, the Hobbit trilogy, etc. There’s no guarantee them doing the Thrawn trilogy would be better, in fact it probably would have pissed you off more if/when they cut things or made creative choices that weren’t in the books). I suspect (could totally be wrong) you’re adding extra fan rage and not giving the new trilogy as fair of a chance because it’s not what you wanted/thought it should be (I’ve been there with other movies I get it). IMO if you judged them without that in mind you’d see the current trilogy, while light years from perfect, is better than the prequels, but that’s my opinion.

              Good discussion though.

              • Aragar – DarkSlayer

That’s the first time someone presents me a good and concise point and you weren’t even toxic or anything. You’re one in a hundred million on the internet and I’m glad we’re talking.

There’s no guarantee them doing the Thrawn trilogy would be better, in fact it probably would have pissed you off more if/when they cut things or made creative choices that weren’t in the books).

I have to admit that you are right, I would probably be pissed either way. lol Right now for example, another universe I love a LOT, Dune, is in the hands of Denis Villaneuve, and I’m hoping he’ll be as faithful as possible to F. Herbert’s lore as possible. (I’m sure it will be better than what David Lynch did back in the day though 😛 )

IMO if you judged them without that in mind you’d see the current trilogy, while light years from perfect, is better than the prequels

Mmmmmyes and at the same time no. In my case what triggers me the most are the characters, I don’t know why but I can’t even feel anything for them. 🙁
And Snoke, that name, man… I cringe every time! lol
The story could have been a bit more original too. To be honest.

But anyway, I won’t be a complete hypocrite, I will most likely watch the next movie anyway, and I’ll probably like at least the special effects. I guess, in the end, I’ll just have to deal with it.

Have a good one, good discussion.

          • Aragar – DarkSlayer

I have to admit I am excited for the Mandalorian tv show and Season 7 Clone Wars though(best Star Wars show so far, imho)

  • Jiří Dobeš

two new planets? thats the asteroid depot and onderon? do i get it right that they include onderon but dont make Dxun available outside the ops? like wtf?

    • gua543

Remember Denova? Rakata Prime? Umbara? Making a planet available only in an instance is, unfortunately, nothing new for Bioware.

As the Sith Empire prepares to make a decisive strike against a
newly-constructed Republic shipyard on the planet Corellia, members of
the Dark Council see victory on the horizon and begin plotting against
one another in anticipation of the spoils. Meanwhile, Republic forces
must race against time to muster reinforcements from across the galaxy
in order to defend Corellia from the Sith.”

So it’s Corellia from Act III revisited.

    • Rance

As it should have been, the whole Zakuul mess has been the darkest age this game has ever seen, now if they returned to class stories I would be sold, shame that will never happen.

  • Haven’t been a sub in a while. What’s the new level cap? 75? At either rate, I may splurge back to sub status closer to the rollout of Onslaught. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve even logged into SWTOR.

    • Bryan

75 is what I saw from another source.

      • Yea, I like it when they up the level caps. I know my main is maxed out on both exp and command level. However I’ll concede that I never bothered to finish KOTET with it (mainly did FPs and OPs for a while before I stopped playing). I imagine boosting up to 75 will make it a little easier progressing through that storyline.

  • Drivan

I don’t even understand the point of putting in a new level cap other than to provide players with something to grind out…

Duxon and Onderon, I’m gonna guess they have simply reskinned and recoded the material that the were able to salvage from KotoR 2? And they are already reintroducing Dantooine… So they are just bringing back all of the planets from KotoR and KotoR 2, while the nostalgic part of me thinks that maybe I want to resub and play these planets part of me is thinking that this shows a lack of creativity.

I have been waiting a long time for this game to get good again and I really want to play it again, but so far nothing they have discussed seems worth my money.

    • Ben Gimson

” gonna guess they have simply reskinned and recoded the material that the were able to salvage from KotoR 2?”

Not sure that’s quite how games work :’)

    • Guest

Guess you havent played KOTOR or KOTOR2 in awhile. the resolution on those skins were much lower resolution. Theres no copy paste happening there.

  • Zac

Higher level cap, new planet, new raid.

Sorry, but where’s the new and innovative stuff in this expansion? It’s generic as hell. No new exciting features or nothing. WoW at least tries, even though they’ve crashed and burned fairly hard with BFA.

    • Daniel Maxton

Personally, I don’t see the point in raising the level cap, mainly because they’re not trying to reinvent the combat system; ability rotation has been the same since pretty much 2.x. In regards to them adding these planets: I’m gonna be honest, I don’t fall for nostalgia – I can just start KOTOR 1 or 2 if I feel like reliving Dxun or Dantooine (Onderon was boring as hell, let’s be honest – design-wise). BioWare, obviously doesn’t know what else to insert into the game (lore/story-wise). Now, everything comes down to a 15 minutes worth of cutscenes that become irrelevant in the long run. Each new planet is just an excuse to grind more gear. There’s no lore behind them. I couldn’t give two fucks about Zakuul or Odessen ’cause they barren. There’s nothing to learn there. You can just copy/paste the most generic “well, that society is technologically advanced, therefore they’re OP, and Reps and Sith Empire suck balls.’ – genius!
I always wanted BioFail to disable the invisible walls that they have installed on every planet, and I was also interested in having an actual flying vehicles in the game. Like, imagine if we could soar way up into the air and just explore the Senate on the Rep side, like, landing on its roof – that’d be awesome; or, exploring Tatooine’s desert from 150+ meters height. It’s annoying that you can’t really explore any of the planets in the game without stumbling into an invisible wall. For example, I got interested in exploring Hoth a couple of months ago, but then, as I was walking on the edges of the map, I found out that anything interesting is either blocked and you physically can’t get to where you want, or it’s a dead zone with increasingly diminishing health pool.

  • Fubarz
  • Somehow I missed this (because it didn’t have a relevant, attention-grabbing picture with it) but that Tactical Item thing looks really cool — super interested in how that will play out. Veteran SWTOR player idnewton wonders if it will just be a simple thing like you choose between three options, 800+ crit, 800+ alacrity, 800+ power and they call that “build-defining”

I really, genuinely, desperately hope that I’m wrong. It could give classes a new ability, or at least a new perk which changes ability rotation.

Basically my point is, if the tactical item doesn’t change a given discipline’s rotation, it is not build-defining. Please actually make good on this promise, and cause these items to actually alter optimal rotations. This could be so cool, and it’s not an unreasonable feat. Honestly this is super important. I personally think it’s the *most* important promise of this post — more so than the raid, than the level cap increase, than the new planets.

Make this “build-defining” item *actually change* the way a person plays their character. That’s all I ask.

  • LOL, a new level cap? Why? Your level has nothing to do with anything. You get level synced on every planet anyway. This isn’t an expansion. Not even a little. The new gear slot thing sounds cool but meh. I’m sure that fat pig Andryah is peeing in her unwashed panties over it though.

  • Fubarz
  • Duke

No new classes? No new races? No new skills? Another shitty update is on the way boys.
